Woman Crush Wednesdays
Featuring Cici Marie

This week we are joined by the fabulous fashionista –  who loves to mix 1950’s and 60’s fashion into her everyday wear!
Read on to learn more about why she inspires us here at radiotochka.info!

1. Hi Carly, we absolutely love your style and congratulations on the birth of little Sadie Mae! How is motherhood treating you?
Aw, thank you! It’s been going very well – it’s a big culture shock and can be the hardest job, but 9 months in she’s becoming a real little person now, which is the best reward. It’s a cliche but it’s true, I can’t remember life without her!

2. Which styles by radiotochka.info would you recommend for mothers-to-be that are perfect for maternity wear?
When I was heavily pregnant it was during this time last year and the weather was amazing (a little too amazing when I got to the real beached whale stage!!) and I got heavily into maxi dresses – comfy and could hide my disgustingly swollen feet! I also think the length of the fabric helped me to look less like a walking boulder, as I’m short. I would size up and rest the waistband at the top of my bump, using a belt to help with fit if needs be. So, if I was pregnant this year I would definitely want to rock the Kelly Palm Print Maxi and the Elsie with a beautiful baby bump. Maxi dresses aren’t hugely practical when you’re crawling after a little one either, so wear them while you can, summer mamas!!

3. If you could design your perfect print what would you create and what style would it feature on?
I actually think the aforementioned palm print is one of my favourites and is hard to top! I’ve got a lot less into novelty prints the older I get, but I’d like to see more fab atomic-inspired abstract prints. Something sputnik-y perhaps! I’d love that on a jumpsuit; I’m getting really into jumpsuits as a practical (er, until it comes to toilet breaks!) alternative to dresses.

4. Could you create an outfit from our spring collection? What items would you pair together? (includes accessories and shoes)
I love so many of the one-pieces this season, so let’s pick the Frou Palm Tree Print Playsuit! This would be a summer staple, and I’d definitely wear it with yellow, so the Shelby Toucan Wedges would be great for that. I’d probably throw in a classic straw bag that would go with everything like the Heidi Summer Bag and then take my pic of your fab sunglasses and maybe a tropical hair flower.

5. Pick your favourite: Swing dresses or swing skirts?
This is tricky for a short person; swing dresses can be quite hard to get the right fit as I’m short in the torso, have narrow shoulders and stumpy arms, just to add to the stumpy legs! I’ve tended to favour swing skirts for that reason, but actually that’s pure practicality and I’d choose a well fitting swing dress over a skirt every time. If you ever launched a petite range, I’d be first in line *hint hint* 😉

6. Can you describe your aesthetic?
‘Vintage inspired’ is how I always describe it. I don’t want to recreate exact looks from the past, I want to shamelessly thieve elements from the decades I like the best and mix them with my own modern style. 50’s and 60’s looks are my favourite, but I’ve also loved a lot of the 70’s influence form the Bright & Beautiful range in recent years.

7. Do you have beauty/life hacks to share?
Invest in a good faux ponytail because they can save a bad hair day!! I have a lot of bad hair days as a time-pushed mum, and without fail whenever I wear my ponytail I hoodwink a lot of people into thinking I’ve put some actual effort in. I often wear it as a big bun, or with a half up-do, so it’s very versatile!

8. If you could combine three of your favourite animals together to make the ultimate animal, what would you choose?
Ha ha, good question! My favourite animals are dogs, but I also love pandas. Mixing a dog and a panda into some sort of giant fluffy teddy is the dream. I’m not sure about a third animal though…maybe dolphins, but they’re not going to work with that look so let’s take their brains so it’s a super intelligent giant fluffy dog panda. I mean, who doesn’t want one of those?

9. Could you pick your favourite quote and tell us why it is special to you?
I can be prone to being anxious and it can really hinder me, so I try to live by this one from Mark Twain: ‘Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.’ When I’m struggling with something that I want to do but that gives me huge anxiety, I think of this a lot and now and then it can pull me through to the other side. I think there’s so much truth in it.

10. Lastly, what is your favourite book?
Oh no, this is one I can never answer! There are a lot of books that mean a lot to me; I would maybe say Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for setting me on my path to my current job in book publishing… I’m also a mega fan of the book Ready Player One and discovered it way before the film was on the horizon (which makes me cool, right??), going on to convince virtually every person I know to read it and every one of them loved it – which makes me really proud! But I also have lots of love for the classics and Jane Eyre is up there as one of my forever favourites. I have to stop now because I could go on for five more pages.
